A Hawaii cruise from Vancouver is usually a one-way voyage. In spring and early autumn, ships that spend the summer in Alaska sail between Canada and the South Pacific or Asia, and Honolulu is a natural stop on the way.
That timing creates some of the most appealing Hawaii cruises on the market: modern ships, a classic ocean crossing and a run of island calls, often in about nine nights. Recent examples include nine-night Vancouver–Honolulu sailings on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas and on Celebrity Edge, while Norwegian, Holland America, Princess, Oceania and Silversea have offered longer Vancouver–Hawaii voyages. Because the ships starting in Canada begin in a foreign port, they can end in Honolulu without an extra foreign stop.
How Long It Takes From Vancouver
Plan on about five days at sea from Vancouver before the first Hawaiian island. Some sailings call at Seattle or Victoria first. The islands follow — often Hilo, Kona, Maui and Kauaʻi — with the cruise ending in Honolulu. Longer voyages may add more island days or continue to the South Pacific.
Clocks go back as the ship sails southwest; Hawaii is three hours behind Vancouver during daylight saving time and two hours behind in winter, so the change comes gently.

Planning a One-Way Crossing
- Passport: required, because the cruise starts in Canada.
- Flights: book an open-jaw ticket, into Vancouver and home from Honolulu. Cruise Airfare explains how.
- Hotel nights: stay a night in Vancouver before sailing, and consider a few days in Hawaii afterward; Hawaii Cruise has land-and-cruise ideas.
- Luggage: pack for cool Pacific Northwest sea days and Hawaiian heat. Cruising Checklist has the lists.
- Book early: these sailings are few each season and the best cabins go first.
Seattle Departures
Seattle sees fewer Hawaii cruises than Vancouver, but some lines offer round trips or include a Seattle call on Vancouver sailings. A round trip from Seattle needs a foreign port, which is often Victoria, British Columbia, or a port in Mexico. If Seattle is your home port, ask our advisors to watch for these sailings; they appear in small numbers each season.
